We are excited you've decided to pop in for a visit. CyberSpace just got a little bigger and hopefully a lot more useful. At least that is what we think - biased web folk that we are. Tornado Alley is oriented towards one primary goal: Helping every household in the USA develop a robust, useful and tested disaster plan. Tall orders considering the federal government has effectively given up on civil defense (we are one of the few countries that doesn't. Ummm....Russia does, China does, North Korea does, and Switzerland does, to name a few). Don't believe it? When was the last time YOU trekked on over to the nearest Civil Defense shelter for a drill? A week? A month? 20-30 years?

Don't get your knickers in a twist over this statement. Our government is tasked with protecting the United States from all sorts of evil people and countries that wish to do us harm. It is Civil Defense on a national level. Surely you have heard of the Department of Homeland Security and their 5 level threat notification system. While you may have been told to go buy some plastic and duct tape the real reason for the threat levels may surprise you. Check out the link over here on the top right column if you want to find out more (Current threat level). You'll also find the threat level always displayed on every main page of this site.

If you are like most folks you've had informal discussions around the water cooler, talked with friends and family about the general topic of terror threats and what to do about it. Heck, you maybe even went so far as to pick up a couple of snappy brochures from our government at the Post Office. Ten minutes searching on the web will bring you more preparedness information than you could read in several lifetimes. Overwhelming and frustrating to say the least, especially with that nagging thought bubbling around in your brain that says, "Gee, our house should really do something to get ready." The problem is where do you start? How do you know when you've done enough? How can I afford it? Do I stay or run? Or do I just give up in desperation and run towards ground zero to be done with it?

Enter Tornado Alley.

We can help you get it done. We won't do it all for you because your situation is unique. It's going to take some initiative on your part and the realization that the government is NOT going to help you on this. Their solutions are on a big scale and directed towards crowd control and dealing with a population that may be in a panic. Sorry. Welcome to the big bad world. If your family is important to you then it's time to step up to the plate and get moving.

By the way, we are not into fear. You shouldn't be either. Lots of folks try to stir the pot, get you anxious and afraid in order to buy something or give up something you really shouldn't. Ever notice that the news is chock full of nasty stories that make you swear the world is falling apart right before your eyes and there is not a shred of decency or safety anywhere? You won't find that here. In fact, once you decide to move forward and start building your disaster plan the anxiety will melt away and the confidence of your household will rise dramatically. You will have more choices, less stress, go to bed at night knowing your family is ready and will be a help in a crisis rather than a liability. Will you be protected from every conceivable form of harm? No, but you will have the tools and resourcefulness to adapt to the situation.

Is it easy? No. Can it be bought in a neat little package? No. Can I have it the American way - all done tomorrow? No. Can I have it for free? No.

Like we said...Tornado Alley will help, but YOU have to turn on the brain cells, turn off the TV, circle the family and move forward. No excuses. Be creative and if you can't do it alone then get your family and closest friends involved.

So how do we get this done? One family at a time and with cooperation. Tornado Alley can help by providing you with useful, organized information along with a PROCESS to get this done. You will still have to educate yourself and yes, we will actually ask you to buy stuff from us. It's how we make the site go. Most of it is free, we just ask you to buy a few reference materials that you MUST have on hand. Period. Because when the time comes and you need it...you will have just missed the last train out of the station. It won't be available at any price (the internet may be unavailable and your computer down). Hope you enjoy MRE's and living in a stadium.

To get started please spend a few minutes surfing around the site and get a feel for what is here. Some areas are skimpy for the moment but we have a huge base of material being converted that will go up on a regular basis. If you look on the bottom right side of the page under the pithy quote you will see a blue box with three categories on it. This helps you decide what to do RIGHT NOW to start preparing. Every month there will be something for you to do. Most of it is pretty basic but it's nice to have a reminder. At the end of a year you will have a complete disaster plan in place, tested and ready to go.

Here are a few sections you will want to be aware of:

  • Home page - current set of daily articles. Stop in often and see what is up. We have some of the best folks on the web in the wings contributing and you will enjoy what they have to say.
  • Start Here - the jumping off point for you to move forward. This page will provide you with the order of things you should do and articles to read so you can make visible progress. Expect it to change along the way.
  • Archive - past articles from the site so you can always find them.
  • Library - research area containing preparedness documents and supporting literature. New material is coming in all the time and expect to see over 1Gb worth of material here.
  • Scenarios - you will never know how good your disaster plan is unless you test it. So we lie awake at nights dreaming up examples to really test your plan out. We also invite other folks to submit their ideas. Better to find flaws in practice than when the chips are down.
  • Store - the place we sell stuff. Please go there and consider what we are offering. Then buy it - in particular, the set of three books (Secure Home, Nuclear War Survival Skills and the 10 Pack for Survival). Close your eyes, grab the checkbook and just do it!
  • Feedback - you tell us what you would like to see, what talents you have and if you would like to contribute.

There you have it.
